Match moving-
Matchmoving is the art of merging 3d elements into live action film.
Camera Tracking or matchmoving or 3D tracking is the visual-effects technique that allows us to insert computer graphics into live-action footage. Not to be confused with motion capture or motion control photography which are hardware technologies, matchmoving is a software-based technology. It is primarily used to track the movement of a live-action camera involved in a shot, so that an identical virtual camera move can be produced in a 3D animation program.
Match moving is primarily used to track the movement of a camera through a shot so that an identical virtual camera move can be reproduced in a 3D animation program. When new animated elements are composited back into the original live-action shot, they will appear in perfectly-matched perspective and therefore appear seamless
Match moving is related to rotoscoping and photogrammetry. It is sometimes referred to as motion tracking .
The camera tracking information lets you add 3-D animated effects into live-action footage, such as
1- Animated 3-D character insertion (mascots, beasts, flying pixies, you name it).
A favorite for commercials.
2- Vehicle insertion. Aircraft, boats, cars, trucks, spacecraft, things you wish you could
get live, but couldn't afford or don't exist.
3- Architectural Previsualization (ground level or helicopter)
4- Virtual set extensions (boy, that's a fancy newsroom!)
5- Virtual product placement (did George Washington really drink XXX?)
6- Crash reconstructions (from a boom, or vehicle P.O.V.)
7- Matte paintings (ah, so that's what sunset on Mars looks like)
8- Transparent effects. A broad catch-all for effects you really can't see, often fix-its:
insert snow, puddles, volumetric smoke, a big tree to cover a phone pole, a vase to replace
a microphone left in-camera.
